 신문 ‘윔블던 섹시스타 톱10’ 선정

테니스 선수 중에는 미녀가 많다. 이들은 큰 키와 탄탄한 몸매, 예쁜 얼굴과 섹시한 매력으로 팬들을 설레게 한다.

영국의 대중지 ‘더 선’은 윔블던 테니스 대회(22일~7월 5일)를 맞아 23일(한국시간) ‘윔블던 섹시 스타 톱10’을 선정해 보도했다. 1위는 역시 ‘테니스 요정’ 마리야 샤라포바(러시아)다. 이 신문은 “세계랭킹 59위인 샤라포바가 이번 대회에서 24번 시드를 받았지만 테니스 글래머 스타 순위는 여전히 1위인 테니스 여신이다. 최근 어깨 부상을 털어내고 컨디션을 회복 중이다. 샤라포바의 어깨를 마사지할 자원봉사자는 줄을 섰다”며 그의 높은 인기를 우회적으로 표현했다.

2위는 아나 이바노비치(세르비아)가 차지했다. 또렷한 이목구비와 굽이치는 검은 머리가 매력적인 그는 영화배우 캐서린 제타존스를 닮았다는 소리를 듣고 있다. 이 신문은 “이바노비치 이야기로 영화를 만든다면 주연은 제타존스다. 이바노비치의 얼굴과 글래머러스한 몸매는 영락없는 제타존스”라고 평했다. 한 인터뷰에서 “테니스를 하지 않았다면 영화배우가 됐을 것”이라고 말했던 도미니카 시불코바(슬로바키아)가 3위, 디자이너 스텔라 매카트니가 자신이 디자인한 스포츠 브랜드 아디다스 모델로 뽑았던 마리야 키릴렌코(러시아)가 4위, 올해 스포츠일러스트레이티드(SI) 수영복 모델로도 나왔던 다니엘라 한투코바(슬로바키아)가 5위에 각각 올랐다.

니콜 바이디소바(체코), 세리나 윌리엄스(미국), 옐레나 얀코비치(세르비아), 마리온 바르톨리(프랑스)가 차례로 6~9위를 차지했고 라오스계 혼혈인 안네 케오타봉(영국)이 10위에 올랐다.

Clay court preparation / April 17, 2009

I've made a good transition from hard courts to clay. It's physically one of the most difficult times of the season, because you have to work on movements that are specific to clay and require a lot of strength in the legs.

I'm happy with how it's gone and I'm continuing to enjoy working with Craig. He will be present during the Fed Cup tie against Spain in two weeks, by the way. I'm sure it's going to be a great event and it's a wonderful opportunity for us to win promotion to the main World Group, to give ourselves a chance of winning the trophy next year.

According to the rankings we are favourites because of Jelena and I, but it's never easy to play away from home - in fact, we don't have much experience of it - and of course it was Spain who chose the surface.

At the same time, I am happy to be playing on clay. Last year we played on hard courts in Croatia at this time, which didn't help in the preparation for the clay court season.

Serbians celebrate Easter this weekend. We have an interesting tradition: I know that in many countries people give each other chocolate eggs, but in Serbia it is traditional to cook real eggs on the Friday, decorate them and then exchange them on the Sunday.

We decorate the eggs using different colourings and other attachments. I like to dye the eggs red. on the Sunday it is traditional to have a competition to find out who made the strongest eggs. We all take it in turns to hit them against each other's eggs as hard as we can and see whose egg is left at the end.

There is also the tradition of keeping one red egg until the following year: this is known as the "housekeeper" egg. Of course, they are hard-boiled and so it is okay to keep them for a whole year, as long as you don't break the shell! It is supposed to bring luck to your family.

I have fond memories and spending time with my grandparents at Easter when I was a kid, and it's nice that we keep this tradition with the eggs.
